Campania white wines with the IGP/IGT designation

As expected for some Campania red wines, Campania white wines with the IGP/IGT designation are also divided into ten categories (nine sub-regional and one regional) which contain the whole dimension of the specificities of the production areas throughout the regional territory in its environmental diversity, especially as regards climatic conditions, soils and modes of production. Grapes from the vines named Greco, Fiano, Falanghina and Coda di Volpe are used for production in inland areas, in particular in the district of Naples and in the volcanic area, but also in the territory of Benevento and in the internal region called Irpinia; grapes from the Biancolella and the Forastera vines are the basis of the IGP/IGT white wines produced on the islands of Ischia, Procida and Capri. In the coastal areas and near the sea, the vines called Pepella, Verdeca and Fenile, which are located along the Amalfi Coast, stand out for their production, while the Aspirinio vine is particularly widespread in the district of Caserta and in part of the territory of the province of Naples; grapes from the vines called Chardonnay, Trebbiano Toscano and Bellone are also used for the production of excellent IGP/IGT white wines. Campania white wines with the IGP/IGT designation develop different and various organoleptic characteristics, which recall the specific climatic conditions and the characteristic morphology of the soils on which the various types of grapes are grown; these white wines have a more or less intense straw yellow colour (tending to greenish in the case of the Falanghina wine), its scent ranges from floral to fruity, and its flavour results in a characteristic, dry and balanced manner.
