Taurasi DOCG “Macchia dei Goti” 2018: why we like it
The “Macchia dei Goti” wine by Cantine Antonio Caggiano is obtained from 100% Aglianico grapes coming from vineyards located in the municipality of Taurasi, in the Macchia dei Goti district, the heart of the Taurasi DOCG production area, at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, and characterized by a clayey-limestone soil typology. The vineyard is cultivated with a density of 5000 vines per hectare and a production of 50 quintals per hectare with 1 kg per plant.
After the destemming and crushing processes, the grapes – harvested when they are fully ripe – are subjected to fermentation with intense maceration. Then the malolactic fermentation follows and the maturation phase in French oak barriques for about 18 months with subsequent refinement in the bottle for about 12 months. Complex and elegant wine, rich in fruity scents and tertiary aromas, it is the ideal wine to be paired with tasty, flavored and structured dishes.
It matches excellently with main courses of land, based on red meat or game. Also excellent with very aged cheeses. It is advisable to uncork the bottle at least one hour before tasting and to serve it at a temperature of 18°/20° C.
