Campania Aglianico IGT “Helea”: why we like it
This Campania Aglianico IGT “Helea” red wine from the Ponterotto winery expresses all the characteristics and potential of the Aglianico grapes, worked to their best in the making of this wine. This wine is obtained from a careful selection of pure Aglianico grapes, coming from vineyards located in the municipality of Montemarano, in the heart of the Irpinia wine-growing area, an area particularly suited to the cultivation of grapes of this historic variety.
The grapes are harvested by hand in 20 kg boxes between the end of October and the first ten days of November, then transported to the cellar where they are carefully selected. The maceration process takes place cold, a soft pressing is then carried out and the fermentation process continues in a controlled temperature environment, lasting for at least 14 days. The refinement procedures take place in stainless steel tanks for 6 months, at a controlled temperature, and then continue in oak barrels and finish the aging in the bottle for a period of 6 months at least.
Its specific characteristics pair with elaborate dishes, based on spices and truffles, and with long cooking such as first courses with meat sauce, but also with ground second courses such as roasts and game, cured meats and medium-highly matured spicy cheeses. It is recommended to taste it at a serving temperature of 18 – 20°C.
