Mier Vini TaurasiPonterotto: A Family History Founded on Ancient Roots and Peasant Traditions

The Ponterotto winery was born in the municipality of Mirabella Eclano (AV) from the initiative of three brothers, Antonio, Gaetano and Maria Luisa Di Pietro, with the aim of keeping alive a family tradition based on common belonging to a territory and to the production of wines linked to local peasant knowledge.

Our history is linked to the most ancient one of the land that hosts us, the Irpinia region: the name Ponterotto derives, in fact, from the ancient bridge of the same name, that stands on the Calore river, known as “Ponte Rotto”, on the historical way known as “Via Appia”, built during the Roman Empire in this area to connect the territories of the Campania region with the Apulian lands, in order to facilitate commercial traffic.

With great determination and thanks to our passion for the world of wine and viticulture in general, we have chosen to enhance the land inherited from our grandparents, people with profound values who sacrificed an entire life away from home for the purchase of the land, with the aim of giving continuity to our history through the realisation of a winery mainly based on the production of fine Irpinian wines and which has become a symbol of belonging to a common origin founded on ancient roots and peasant traditions.

The main agricultural estate owned by the family stands on these ancient lands, rich in history, precisely in Calore, a hamlet of the municipality of Mirabella Eclano, in the district of Avellino, right in the locality of Ponterotto, where white grapes of the Falanghina variety are mainly grown; the second estate is located on the hills of Santa Lucia, in the hamlet of Santa Paolina, in the Greco area, made up of vineyards that enjoy excellent exposure and specific microclimatic conditions.

A third agricultural estate has recently been opened in the municipality of Montemarano, a historic site in the production of Aglianico grapes and Taurasi DOCG red wine, where plants and grapes benefit from a high altitude and particularly favorable climatic conditions, allowing the realisation of wines with particularly valuable organoleptic characteristics.

With deep dedication and thanks to the particular characteristics of the soils and vines we grow, we proudly produce 4 wines of great value that embrace various Campania designations: for the red wines the Campania Aglianico IGT “Helea”, for the white ones the Irpinia Falanghina DOC “ Perzechè” and the Greco di Tufo DOCG “Narciso” and finally the Ponterotto Spumante Brut Irpinia Greco DOC “Lisetta” for the sparkling wines.

We invite you to discover our selection of wines, to experience the authentic flavour of a fabulous land capable of offering products that have no equal. Come with us on a fantastic journey through the authentic flavours of the Irpinia region.
