Falanghina Sannio DOC
Falanghina del Sannio DOC wine
The Falanghina del Sannio DOCdesignation includes Campania white wines produced in the district of Benevento, mainly in a territorial area (precisely called Sannio) located in the north of Naples, between the province of Benevento and the territory of Avellino. Although there are no certain historical sources, the name of this wine probably derives from the Latin word “falange”, the pole used to support the vigorous shoots of the vines. However, the first official news date back to the middle of the 19th century, appearing in some agricultural treaties published at the time. Since 2010 Falanghina del Sannio DOC has been identified as a specific designation within the more extensive Sannio DOC category. Its production is allowed only in the district of Benevento, in particular in 4 areas that include in the Falanghina del Sannio DOC designation 4 DOC sub-areas: Sant’Agata dei Goti, Taburno, Guardia Sanframondi (or Guardiolo) and Solopaca. The organoleptic properties of the Campania white wine with the Falanghina del Sannio DOC designation lend this wine a straw yellow colour, a refined, floral and fruity olfactory profile and a dry and fresh flavour, which sometimes results in a slightly acidic taste, while in other cases it has a more energetic one.
