Cantine Mustilli: A Winemaking Tradition Rooted in the Sannio
The Mustilli estate is rooted in the heart of the Sannio region, in Sant’Agata de’ Goti, where the Mustilli family settled at the beginning of the 16th century. Founded by Leonardo Mustilli, the estate is renowned for the rediscovery and promotion of native grape varieties, particularly Falanghina. In the 1970s, Leonardo and his wife Marili, with passion and dedication, transformed this grape from a distillate into a fine wine, bottling the first Falanghina in 1979.
With fifteen hectares of vineyards on volcanic soils enriched with clay and limestone elements, our estate practices sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture. We employ green manure techniques and organic fertilisers, along with integrated pest management. Thanks to careful cultivation, our vineyards produce high-quality grapes that create wines with unique organoleptic characteristics.
We are proud to offer a wide range of wines that reflect the richness of the Sannio territory. Among the most renowned are the whites: Falanghina del Sannio DOC and Falanghina del Sannio Sant’Agata dei Goti DOC “Vigna Segreta,” elegant wines that embody the authentic flavour of the Campanian terroir; and Sannio Greco DOC, made from Greco grapes, offering a refined white with fruity notes. Our reds boast strong, structured aromatic profiles, such as the two varieties of Sannio Piedirosso DOC, one of which hails from the Sant’Agata dei Goti subzone, both historic products of our winery, and wines made from Aglianico grapes, producing a deep and intense red, the Sannio Aglianico DOC. We also engage in innovative ventures, like our two sparkling versions: Beneventano Falanghina IGT frizzante “Regina Isabella sui lieviti,” made entirely from Falanghina grapes, and Beneventano Aglianico IGT rosato frizzante “Regina Sofia sui lieviti,” a pure Aglianico rosé. Since 1987, we have produced a passito from a selection of Falanghina, Malvasia, and Fiano grapes in varying proportions, and since 2021 we proudly produce our extra brut rosé Spumante di qualità Metodo Classico, using Piedirosso and Aglianico grapes.
Our estate stands out for its commitment to quality and tradition, with a strong dedication to sustainability. Winemaking takes place in historic cellars carved into the tuff, 16 metres deep, maintaining a profound connection with the past.
